“Belmore is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Belmore is located 9 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Canterbury. Belmore is surrounded by the suburbs of Campsie, Canterbury, Hurlstone Park and Lakemba.
The population of Belmore was 3,898 as at the 2016 census. Prior to European settlement, the area was home to the Darug people. The first European settler in the area was John Palmer, who established a property in 1807. The suburb was named after Edward Belmore, who was Governor of New South Wales from 1868 to 1872.”
