“Kogarah is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Kogarah is located 16 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district and is part of the St George area. The population of Kogarah was 15,549 at the 2016 census. Kogarah is a local government area and is the administrative centre for the Georges River Council.
Kogarah was first settled by Europeans in 1823. It was originally known as Wallacia and was renamed after Reverend Charles Kogerah who opened Wallacia Public School in 1859. Kogarah became a municipality in 1885. It was proclaimed a town in 1957 and a city in 1967.
