“Blakehurst is located in the Municipality of Kogarah, in the Georges River Council local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It is situated on the southern bank of the Georges River, about 15 kilometres south of Sydney’s central business district. Blakehurst is a mainly residential suburb, with a population of over 6,000 people.
The first European settlers in the area were timber getters and fishermen. The suburb was named after William Bligh, who was Governor of New South Wales from 1806 to 1808. The first land grant in the area was made to Captain John Connellan in 1837. Blakehurst was proclaimed a municipality in 1889.
