“Beacon Hill is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located 16 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Liverpool. Beacon Hill is bounded by the suburbs of Bankstown to the north, Casula to the east, Pleasure Point to the south and Heathcote to the west. The population of Beacon Hill was 2,630 as at the 2016 census
The name “Beacon Hill” is derived from an early land grant to William Dawes, who named his property after a hill near his home town of Northampton, England. Dawes built a house on his property in 1800 and operated a ferry service across Georges River. In 1810, Dawes was granted a licence to operate a public house on his property and called it The Beacon Inn.
Beacon Hill was originally part of the Parish of Casula. On 1 January 1968, it was transferred to the Municipality of Liverpool. Beacon Hill was proclaimed as a suburb in its own right on 9 November 1984.”
