“Croydon is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Croydon is located 23 kilometres (14 mi) west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Parramatta. Croydon had a population of 1,564 at the 2016 census.
The first European settlers in the area were emancipated convicts from Ireland who received land grants in 1793. The main industry in the early days was farming, with crops such as corn, wheat and barley being grown. Dairy farming also became an important industry. The railway arrived in Croydon in 1867, which spurred further development of the area.
